“Durante nuestra exposición ‘Los Hiperbóreos’, transformaremos el galpón de Artes Visuales de Matucana 100 en un gran set de filmación de un largometraje del mismo nombre. El público podrá recorrer las múltiples escenografías que componen la película, y ser testigo de la filmación que llevaremos a cabo junto a la actriz Antonia Giesen y un gran número de muñecos y marionetas. Además, presentaremos una serie de videos y pinturas que han formado parte del proceso creativo del largometraje. La exposición estará en permanente cambio, pues terminaremos de pintar y construir los sets en el mismo lugar, grabaremos la película e iremos modificando el montaje según avance el proceso creativo en el lugar.

‘Los Hiperbóreos’ es una película sobre una película perdida. Hace algunos años filmamos una cinta con Antonia Giessen como protagonista. Inspirados en el delirante Miguel Serrano, poeta, diplomático chileno y exponente del llamado hitlerismo esotérico y en los experimentos de comienzos del cine, esa película era un viaje pesadillesco de la protagonista por distintos universos. Nunca pudimos terminar la película, que filmamos en 16mm blanco y negro, pues entraron a robar a nuestro taller y se llevaron las cintas junto con cámaras, objetos sagrados y equipos. En lugar de volver a filmar ‘Los Hiperbóreos’, hemos decidido producir una película que desentierre el proceso de creación de este largometraje perdido y, esperamos, nos ayude a revelar el misterio del robo.

Esta exposición continúa el proceso creativo iniciado con ‘La Casa Lobo’, largometraje animado que realizamos en más de 15 lugares de exhibición. Esta vez, queremos realizar una experiencia similar, pero para una producción que incluye a una actriz. Desde hace tiempo que estamos probando distintas formas de convertir nuestros procesos en obras y nuestro taller en una instalación abierta y mutante, pues nos parece que el proceso de nuestras obras (y de la mayoría de las obras) es casi siempre más interesante que el resultado final. Queremos que nuestras muestras sean espacios vivos y dinámicos, Intentamos pensar el espacio de arte como un taller, una casa en construcción, un mercado persa, un basural, una escuela y un parque de diversiones.

Experience that transforms the AV warehouse of M100 into a large film set for a feature film, where audiences can witness the filming and participate in unexpected ways.

In the words of León and Cociña:

“During our exhibition ‘The Hyperboreans,’ we will transform the visual arts warehouse of Matucana 100 into a large film set for a feature film of the same name. The public will be able to tour the multiple sets that make up the film and witness the filming that we will carry out with actress Antonia Giesen and a large number of dolls and puppets. In addition, we will present a series of videos and paintings that have been part of the creative process of the feature film. The exhibition will be constantly changing, as we will finish painting and constructing the sets on site, film the movie, and modify the editing as the creative process advances on site.

‘Los Hiperbóreos’ is a movie about a lost movie. A few years ago, we filmed a movie with Antonia Giessen as the protagonist. Inspired by the delirious Miguel Serrano, Chilean poet, diplomat, and exponent of the so-called esoteric Hitlerism, and the experiments of early cinema, that movie was a nightmare journey of the protagonist through different universes. We were never able to finish the movie, which we filmed in black and white 16mm, because someone broke into our workshop and stole the tapes along with cameras, sacred objects, and equipment. Instead of reshooting ‘Los Hiperbóreos,’ we have decided to produce a film that unearths the creation process of this lost feature film and, we hope, helps us reveal the mystery of the theft.

This exhibition continues the creative process initiated with ‘The Wolf House,’ an animated feature film that we made in more than 15 exhibition locations. This time, we want to create a similar experience but for a production that includes an actress. For some time, we have been trying different ways to turn our processes into works and our workshop into an open and mutating installation, as we believe that the process of our works (and most works) is almost always more interesting than the final result. We want our exhibitions to be lively and dynamic spaces. We try to think of the art space as a workshop, a construction site, a Persian market, a landfill, a school, and an amusement park.

‘Los Hiperbóreos’ is the largest experiment we have carried out in this line of work.”
